Suning's prospects are rosy in handset sales

Suning Appliance Co expects handset sales to surge 75 percent to 20 billion yuan (US$2.59 billion) this year in its retail chains across China via its partnership with more manufacturers such as Motorola Inc.

"Sales of mobile phones could account for 20 percent of our projected total 2007 sales of 80 billion yuan to 90 billion yuan, against 60 billion yuan last year," Suning President Sun Weimin told Shanghai Daily.

Suning and Motorola formed a partnership today in Nanjing, under which Motorola will open shop-in-shop counters in 100 select Suning stores in China.

Motorola will sell its latest models and focus on mid- and high-end handsets in these shop-in-shops, said Ray Yam, president of Motorola China.
